Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 24 oz cheese and potato pierogies (frozen or fresh)
  • 12 oz kielbasa sausage, sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar or mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Slice the kielbasa into bite-sized pieces and thinly slice the onion. If using frozen pierogies, no need to thaw—have them ready for layering.
  2. Sauté the Onions and Kielbasa: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté the sliced onions until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the kielbasa slices and cook until slightly browned to enhance their flavor.
  3. Layer Ingredients in the Crockpot: Spoon half of the pierogies into the bottom of the crockpot. Add half of the kielbasa and onion mixture on top. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese and season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Repeat the layers with the remaining pierogies, kielbasa, onions, cheese, and seasonings.
  4. Add Sour Cream and Cook: Mix sour cream with a pinch of garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Dollop the sour cream evenly over the layered casserole. Cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours until the pierogies are tender and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked, gently stir the casserole to combine layers before serving warm. Garnish as desired and enjoy your comforting meal.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook pierogies to avoid mushy texture.
  • Layer pierogies and kielbasa alternately for balanced flavor in every bite.
  • Use a slow cooker liner to make cleanup easier.
  • Add fresh herbs like parsley or chives before serving to brighten flavors.
  • Adjust sour cream amount to your desired creaminess.
