Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (130g) creamy or natural peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (110g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour (or gluten-free all-purpose flour for gluten-free version)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Topping

  • 3/4 cup (130g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chips for variation)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Your Pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking and ensure clean bars.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined, creating a moist and rich base.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda to evenly distribute the leavening agent. Gently stir dry ingredients into the wet mixture just until combined; avoid overmixing to keep bars tender.
  4. Spread and Bake: Transfer batter evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top, pressing slightly into the batter. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
  5. Cool and Slice: Let bars cool completely in the pan to set and maintain shape. Once cooled, cut into squares for serving and enjoy the perfect peanut butter and chocolate blend.

Notes

  • Ensure butter and egg are at room temperature for better mixing and consistent texture.
  • Remove bars from oven as soon as they are set to avoid dryness and maintain chewy softness.
  • Use fresh peanut butter and quality chocolate chips for best flavor.
  • If bars are too soft, chill briefly before slicing for cleaner cuts.
  • Spread batter evenly with a spatula or fingers to ensure uniform baking.
