Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 thick slices of challah or brioche bread
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (or plant-based milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter (or dairy-free butter for vegan version)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Optional Add-ins

  • Sliced strawberries, bananas, or raspberries
  • Chopped hazelnuts, almonds, or walnuts
  • Cardamom or nutmeg (for spiced twist)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Choose thick slices of challah or brioche bread. Spread a generous layer of Nutella on one slice, then top with a second slice to create a sandwich. Gently press together without squeezing out the filling.
  2. Make the Custard Batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of cinnamon until smooth and well combined. This mixture will soak into the bread, creating a soft, custardy texture.
  3. Soak the Sandwich: Carefully dip the Nutella sandwich into the custard batter, coating both sides evenly. Avoid soaking too long to prevent the bread from becoming soggy and falling apart.
  4. Cook on the Skillet: Heat butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the soaked sandwich and cook for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and slightly crispy, and the Nutella inside is melted and gooey.
  5. Serve Warm: Remove from the skillet and plate the Nutella Stuffed French Toast. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup if desired for an extra touch of sweetness.

Notes

  • Choose thick slices of day-old brioche or challah for best texture and to prevent sogginess.
  • Do not over-soak the bread; dip just enough to coat.
  • Cook over medium heat to crisp the outside while heating the inside thoroughly.
  • Press the edges firmly before soaking to keep the Nutella inside during cooking.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the gooey center and crispy crust at their best.
