Ingredients

Scale

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 tsp taco seasoning
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/4 cup diced jalapeños (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Assembly Ingredients

  • 68 pre-made soft bread rolls (such as brioche or classic sandwich rolls; gluten-free if preferred)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Optional Toppings and Garnishes

  • Sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Additional jalapeño slices or salsa

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and jalapeños, cooking until softened. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in taco seasoning and a splash of water to evenly coat the beef, allowing the flavors to meld. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Assemble the Bread Rolls: Slice each bread roll lengthwise, creating a pocket without cutting all the way through. Fill each roll generously with the seasoned beef mixture, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the filling.
  3. Bake to Perfection: Place the filled rolls on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the bread is slightly toasted.
  4. Add Finishing Touches: Remove the rolls from the oven and top with optional sour cream or Greek yogurt and fresh cilantro. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to keep the filling juicy without excess grease.
  • Don’t overfill the rolls to avoid messiness and difficulty eating.
  • Pre-toast the bread rolls briefly before filling to prevent sogginess.
  • Mix different cheeses for added flavor complexity.
  • Adjust the seasoning gradually, tasting as you go, to balance spice and salt.
