Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Seasonings

  • 1 lb flank, sirloin, or ribeye steak
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemon (juice and wedges for serving)
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Vegetables and Herbs

  • 1 medium cucumber, diced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped

Grains

  • 1 cup cooked quinoa or couscous (prepared per package instructions)

Optional Additions

  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese (optional)
  • Toasted pine nuts, for garnish
  • Tzatziki sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Season the steak generously with salt, pepper, cumin, and paprika. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steak for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust cooking time to your preferred doneness. Once cooked, remove steak from heat and let it rest to retain juices.
  2. Cook the Grain Base: While the steak cooks, prepare quinoa or couscous according to package instructions. Fluff cooked grains with a fork and transfer to a large serving bowl as the base of your Mediterranean Steak Bowl.
  3. Chop Fresh Vegetables and Herbs: Dice cucumbers, halve cherry tomatoes, then finely chop fresh parsley and mint. These ingredients add freshness, crunch, and vibrant flavor to the bowl.
  4. Assemble the Bowl: Slice the rested steak thinly against the grain. Layer the cooked grains first, then top with sliced steak, fresh vegetables, herbs, and crumbled feta cheese if using. Finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a drizzle of olive oil for a bright, flavorful finish.

Notes

  • Let the steak rest after cooking to preserve juices and ensure tenderness.
  • Use room-temperature ingredients for better flavor integration and to prevent the steak from cooling too quickly.
  • Prep vegetables and herbs ahead of time to save cooking time.
  • Avoid overcooking the steak; medium-rare or medium is ideal for juiciness and flavor.
  • Lightly toast spices in olive oil before cooking steak to deepen their flavor.
