The King’s Hawaiian Cheesecake Danish is a delightful pastry that perfectly blends the soft, fluffy sweetness of King’s Hawaiian bread with the rich, creamy smoothness of cheesecake. Easy to prepare and versatile, this baked treat is ideal for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, offering a comforting and indulgent flavor experience with a beautiful presentation.

Ingredients

Base

  • King’s Hawaiian bread (thick slices or pull-apart rolls, quantity as needed)

Cheesecake Filling

  • Cream cheese (8 oz, softened to room temperature)
  • Sugar (1/4 cup)
  • Vanilla extract (1 teaspoon)
  • Egg yolk (1 large)

Optional Toppings

  • Fruit preserves (as desired)
  • Toasted shredded coconut (as desired)
  • Mini chocolate chips or melted chocolate (as desired)
  • Chopped macadamia nuts or almonds (as desired)
  • Fresh or frozen berries (blueberries, raspberries, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cheesecake filling: Blend cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk in a mixing bowl until the mixture is smooth and creamy with no lumps remaining.
  2. Cut and hollow the bread: Slice the King’s Hawaiian bread into thick slices or pull apart rolls, then gently hollow out a small cavity in the center of each piece to hold the cheesecake mixture.
  3. Fill the bread with cheesecake mixture: Using a spoon or piping bag, carefully fill each hollow with the cheesecake filling, making sure not to overfill to prevent spilling during baking.
  4. Add toppings and bake: Add your desired toppings such as fruit preserves, nuts, or toasted coconut on top. Bake the filled bread in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until the cheesecake is set and the bread edges turn golden, approximately 18-22 minutes.
  5. Cool and serve: Allow the Danish to cool slightly so the filling firms up for easier handling. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese for a smooth, lump-free filling.
  • Do not overfill the bread cavities to avoid overflow during baking.
  • Choose fresh King’s Hawaiian bread to maximize softness and sweetness.
  • Refrigerate filled bread for 15 minutes before baking to help the filling set and hold better.
  • Monitor baking time closely; overbaking can dry the bread and curdle the filling.
