Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option)
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened (substitute vegan butter for dairy-free)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fillings (Optional)

  • Mini marshmallows
  • Candy pieces (such as peanut butter cups, gummy worms, caramel sauce, chocolate chips—dairy or dairy-free)
  • Whipped cream or mousse

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Dough: Cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, then gradually add this dry mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft, chocolatey cookie dough forms.
  2. Shape the Cauldrons: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin or use silicone molds. Take generous spoonfuls of dough and press each into individual muffin wells, shaping the dough up the sides to form a bowl or “cauldron” shape, ensuring the base is not too thin to prevent breakage.
  3. Bake Until Set: Bake the cookie cups for 12-15 minutes, or until they look set with firm edges but still slightly soft inside. Avoid overbaking to maintain a chewy texture. Remove from oven and allow the cookie cups to cool completely in the pan before carefully removing them.
  4. Add Your Filling: Once completely cooled, fill each Cauldron Cookie Cup with mini marshmallows, candy, pudding, mousse, or your preferred Halloween-themed treats. For a bubbling effect, mini marshmallows or whipped cream work beautifully.

Notes

  • Chill the dough before shaping for easier handling and better shape retention.
  • Use silicone molds to make removal easier and reduce breakage.
  • Do not overfill the cookie cups to avoid overflow during serving.
  • Allow cookie cups to cool entirely to ensure they hold their shape.
  • Experiment with various fillings such as cream cheese dips, ganache, or fruit for creative variety.
