Ingredients

Proteins

  • Tender steak (ribeye or sirloin), 1 lb
  • Large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined, 12 oz

Seasonings & Flavorings

  • Cajun seasoning (paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, herbs), 2 tbsp
  • Fresh garlic, minced, 3 cloves
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh lemon juice, from 1 lemon
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, 2 tbsp (for garnish)

Cooking Fats

  • Olive oil, 2 tbsp
  • Butter, 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Pat the steak and shrimp dry. Generously coat both with Cajun seasoning and a sprinkle of salt. Mince the garlic and chop fresh parsley while preheating your skillet.
  2. Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust to your preferred doneness. Remove steak from the pan and let it rest to allow juices to settle.
  3. Cook the Shrimp: In the same skillet, add a bit more olive oil, then toss in minced garlic. After it becomes fragrant (about 30 seconds), add the seasoned shrimp. Cook shrimp just until pink and opaque, approximately 2 minutes per side.
  4. Finish with Butter and Lemon: Reduce heat to low, add butter to the skillet and let it melt into the garlicky juices. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the shrimp and mix gently, coating everything in the flavorful sauce.
  5. Combine and Serve: Slice the rested steak thinly against the grain, then plate alongside or atop the shrimp. Garnish with fresh parsley and an optional lemon wedge for a final vibrant touch.

Notes

  • Allow steak to rest after cooking to retain its juiciness and tenderness.
  • Remove shrimp promptly when pink to avoid a rubbery texture.
  • Season generously with Cajun spices for full flavor impact.
  • Use high heat for searing to create a beautiful crust on the steak and keep shrimp juicy.
  • Use fresh lemon juice to brighten the dish more effectively than bottled versions.
