Instructions

  1. Boil the Potatoes: Start by boiling small Yukon Gold potatoes in salted water until they are just tender when pierced with a fork, about 15 minutes. This ensures soft insides for smashing.
  2. Drain and Cool Slightly: Drain the potatoes well and let them cool just enough to handle safely without burning your fingers, preparing them for smashing.
  3. Smash the Potatoes: Using the bottom of a sturdy glass or a potato masher, gently press down on each potato until flattened to about ½ inch thick, keeping them whole to maximize crispiness.
