Air Fryer Mummy Pigs in a Blanket Delight

Air Fryer Mummy Pigs in a Blanket Delight is a quick, festive, and delicious snack perfect for Halloween or any fun gathering. Mini sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry strips create a spooky mummy look, baked to golden perfection in the air fryer, delivering a crispy, flavorful bite with less oil and fuss. Ideal as a party appetizer or a playful snack, this recipe combines nostalgic comfort with a healthy twist and customizable options to suit all tastes.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Mini sausages – 20 pieces
  • Puff pastry sheets – 1 sheet (thawed)
  • Dijon mustard – 1 tablespoon
  • Egg wash (1 egg beaten)
  • Black sesame seeds or peppercorns – 40 pieces (for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions. Once soft, roll it out on a clean surface and cut into thin strips about a quarter inch wide to use as mummy bandages.
  2. Wrap the Mini Sausages: Lightly brush each mini sausage with Dijon mustard. Wrap diagonal strips of puff pastry around each sausage leaving small gaps to create a mummy effect, ensuring the sausages are partially exposed to allow steam to escape and achieve crispiness.
  3. Apply Egg Wash: Gently brush the egg wash all over each wrapped sausage to help the pastry develop a golden brown, shiny finish when cooked.
  4. Add Eyes: Press two black sesame seeds or small peppercorns into each wrapped sausage to form the mummy’s eyes, giving the snack its playful Halloween character.
  5. Air Fry to Perfection: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the mummies in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. Check at 8 minutes to avoid overcooking.

Notes

  • Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use to prevent stickiness.
  • Do not overlap wrapped sausages in the air fryer to ensure even cooking.
  • Place eyes firmly before air frying to avoid them falling off.
  • Start checking doneness at 8 minutes to prevent drying out the sausages.
  • Serve warm immediately for best taste and texture.
